Terrible weather conditions decimated field of elite runners, winning times were slowest in memory, and the remaining 26000+ runners suffered stride by stride through wind rain and cold.
But, in a remarkable surprise, when we ran the numbers for all finishers, we found the average finish time in 2018 was 3:57, a minute (52 seconds to be precise) faster than 3:58 in 2017. By comparison, the average finish time for all races in all conditions from 2000-2018 is 3:54.
