While it was no surprise that Mirinda Carfrae knew what it takes to come from behind to win an Ironman triathlon, and it also surprised no one that she was a fast runner, at the 2013 Ironman World Championship, she stunned competitors and live and online spectators with an extraordinary 2:50 marathon and a new women's record time -- 8:52:14 -- in taking her second Kona title.

At the 2012 Chicago Marathon, 37,475 determined runners finished one of the largest and best marathons in the world. The average finish time of 4 hours, 32 minutes, fairly consistent with averages in past years, keeps Chicago among the slightly toughe of RunTri's Top 25 Hardest/Easiest Marathons. Of the total finishers, 9% or, 3788 athletes, ran times that met or beat Boston Marathon qualifying standards.
